About Us

In early 1990, six women met at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Athens, Tennessee to form a humane society that would assist the City of Athens Animal Shelter. The McMinn Regional Humane Society (MRHS) was chartered in September, 1990, By-laws were adopted and officers were seated in October 1990. Our non-profit status 501(c)(3) was approved in 1991.

From this humble beginning, the MRHS has seen steady growth and is well respected by the community and its leaders, both in the county and the city.

The McMinn Regional Humane Society (MRHS) is chartered through the state of Tennessee. We have an Executive Director, a President, and a Board of Directors who are the decision-makers in dealing with every aspect of the MRHS.

The MRHS has made a commitment to the community to stop animal abuse, promote pet adoptions, and educate the public about animal welfare and the vital need for pet sterilization.

Throughout the years, our volunteers have visited every school in McMinn County with an education program that was devoted to animal care, welfare, and education about pet sterilization. We have a wonderful volunteer program at our animal shelter for school-age children from the age of l6.

The MRHS is in the forefront of investigating animal cruelty and seeking legal justice for abused animals. We are diligent in the need to rescue injured or abused animals and providing them with necessary veterinarian care, if needed, and seeking homes for them.

The MRHS has grown from the humble membership of six members to close to 200 members. Our members come from all walks of life and embody the ideals set forth by the MRHS.

Through the tireless efforts of pet rescue groups, the utilization of our web page, Pet Finder and adoptathons, we are constantly "on the move" to promote adoption and sterilization of animals.

Our organization is based on dedicated volunteers who, without pay, donate countless hours in fundraising, conducting school programs and working at the animal shelter and at our Two Summers Sterilization Clinic to ensure that every homeless animal has a chance to be placed in a loving home.

Without people like you who love and respect God's creatures, our goals could never be met. Please consider joining our organization. If you would prefer not joining at this time, but would like to make a donation, we would be extremely appreciative. Our mailing address is:

Helping Us

More than 95% of our funding comes from membership dues and contributions of many citizens of Athens, McMinn County and throughout the country. Without your continued support, animals will be left to suffer and die needlessly. You can make a difference! Please contribute generously as you have in the past to make sure that homeless, abandoned animals are given a chance to become a pet in a loving, caring home.

Your tax-deductible contribution allows us the opportunity to investigate animal abuse and bring the perpetrators to justice. Your support enables us to sterilize and offer medical assistance to many homeless animals. There is no "forgotten majority of animals" at the McMinn Regional Humane Society.

MEMORIAL - HONORARIUMS

As you can see by reading our NEWSLETTER we have a memorial/honorarium page devoted to animal lovers who would like to make a contribution in memorial or in honor of a person(s) or animal. As with every contribution, your money goes directly to help and save our area homeless animals.

Your memorial/honorarium will be printed in the next newsletter, and you will receive a personal copy of our newsletter.
